Hi all...restoring a 66 C10 with a 292 that's been built for power...can't upload photos so I'll post videos. Here's some of the truck...have had my dad record some videos. This is a 66 C10 with a 48 year old 292 that has a clifford intake, headers, hei and 600 cfm edelbrock carb. First few videos will be of the truck and that engine.
1st video in the list is an older one.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkYh2IzgxKo2nd video is of the 292 warming up.

A one tire burnout.
Yeah cheaper to burn one at a time. lol I'll be putting a posi in when the time comes. TJ
Got my TKO600 on its way. Should be here in a couple weeks.
Got my new breathers in! Just gotta bolt'em on now!

Whole engine set up is nice. Ferd Blue.
Not a whole lot to report lately...ok...well...since I Last updated I believe the truck was still in one piece...now its in a million pieces and I'm hoping to paint the frame this weekend. Wish me luck.
Hey guys! Got the engine and tranny on the frame!

Nice job, your making progress. Keep it up. I want to hear it run!
Your really going to love that 5 spd behind the 292. I put the same setup in my '65 pickup and I just love driving it. Also P/S; power disc brakes, headers, aluminum intake with a quadrajet and HEI. Nice dependable set up

Thanks Tom! I want to hear it run to! lol

Thanks! I hoping this tremec does well. I got the close ratio tranny with the .82 od. Way I build the engine this should be a good match.
Well guys I haven't done much with the 66 lately. Since the engine and tranny are on the frame I now have the body to start working on. That will be starting soon. Lotta work ahead. Here's an update from last year. haha

Looking good buddy keep it up
Thanks! I hope to get back on it soon.
Well I've been stripping the cab. Got the windows out last weekend and then the weather turned for the worst and I haven't been able to make a video. lol Be updating soon guys.
I just watched your video. Everything looks pristine! Also, is the Tremec just mounted off of the bellhousing only or ? I didn't see a rear crossmember mount.

Thanks! Yes, for now the tranny is mounted to just the bell housing. There will be a cross member for sure.
Thank you for the response. I seem to remember since the trucks have the bellhousing crossmember, it is a difficult situation to put in a third crossmember and get the driveline angle right and things not be in a bind. Something like that. Have you heard of anything like that?
Just for my peace of mind, I wouldn't want to install it without a trans crossmember either but I know the factory cast iron ones weren't. I wished I could remember what I heard/read about that.
The third member is fairly simple from what I know, I'm going to make my own and leave the tranny as it sits now. Because the engine doesn't have a TON of torque I probably don't Need one, but if I ever want to light the tires off it's just that much more preventative. lol
Well, theres that and it just seems weird to me to leave a transmission that long hanging off the bell with no support. I could see the transmission ears breaking if the conditions were right.
I have. A 72 had to move my shifter to the center location maybe something to think about
Yeah, that's why I'm putting on in. lol

Looking into the shifter, haven't been worried about it cause I don't have my cab ready to mount. lol
It's just spendy is all and it should fit if you have a high hump mine is lowered so had to face a double decker up for it
Yeah last I check it was like $400+ for the dang thing! Not to mentio you have to get the cover to put in place of the original. They get you where ever they can.
Yeah that's what I was talking about! Shit is rediculous!
lol. Yeah, It is, but it should eventually pay off I hope. haha
I know how you feel my truck is getting close
Hi guys! Got some new parts in for my 292 and for the truck. Moving at snail pace for now, but things will be picking up soon. Later all.

Sweet dreams! I have a chromed although pulley don't know what it cost for your to be chromed
That carb is looking mighty nice

Thanks! I'm gonna chrome paint it and see what happens.
That carb is looking mighty nice
Thanks! It costed enough. haha!
Cab is stripped and I'm getting ready for paint and primer. Time to start blasting. Going to purchase a habor freight 10x17 enclosure so I can use that as a blasting cabinet for the cab and other larger pieces.
Well it has been awhile since I have worked on the 66. My 64 GMC took a little dive on the way back from a car show...fuel system problems and a casting plug blew at the back of the head. Well, I ended up yarding the big 305 V6 and doing a light rebuild. All the fighting took a good 4 weeks. I then took a week off from trucks as I needed a brake and I am now getting back onto the 66. Been doing some small stuff...getting the motor permanently mounted...painting up the clutch linkage parts. I am hoping to get the fuel tank pump, and lines ordered soon as I have a pretty cool way I have planned to rout the fuel line. Work on the cab is slow, but I am chugging away at it while I do stuff on the chassis. Can't believe the 292 has been done for 2 years and not fired yet. haha! Getting there!
Another video of the 292:

Looks nice. Use a Remflex exh/intake gasket. Also take your time and order a rubber felpro VC gasket from your local parts store.
I would suggest bending the fuel lines at the carb to get them further from the exhaust.
Do not put a pressure fed fuel gauge in your cab. If it leaks , you will regret it. Maybe put it by the pump.
Very nice work, really clean! That will be fun to drive.
Me? Sure, if it's not my engine. But rusty old cast iron doesn't burn well. You'd have to get one to the point where it would hold some kind of flammable fluid. I'm not there yet.
Kidding aside, tlowe makes a point. In fact NHRA prohibits fuel pressure gages inside of the passenger compartment on drag cars. There are firewall mounted interface connectors available that permit a fuel pressure gage inside without actually carrying fuel into the car. Or you will often see them mounted on the hood / cowl - or at the engine.
I agree. The old South Wind gasoline heaters were a bit scary too. They worked well but a little crazy. Engine fires are bad, passenger compartment fires don't even make good jokes.

Thanks Tom, I haven't checked in for awhile; I don't receive email notifications when someone replies to me so I keep forgetting to check in everyday!
Anyhow I went with another clifford intake/exhaust gasket. I'm gonna look into the rubber valve cover gasket for sure.
Only reason I thought of a fuel pressure gauge in the cab was because I am used to having a 20 gallon fuel tank behind me in the cab. I have removed that tank and installed an 18 gallon tank in the rear of the frame for safety and no gas fumes. I've been considering mounting the fuel pressure gauge on the fire wall instead.
Very nice work, really clean! That will be fun to drive.
Thanks man! I'm super excited!
More updates on the truck while I am at it. Wish I could post pictures here.
