Hi,
I'm looking at a GMC panel that has the V6 in it.
Will a 292 Chevy bolt to the V6 bellhousing or will I have to use a Chevy bell?
I'm assuming(hoping) the frame has holes for the 292 motor mounts?
Any snags involved in this swap?
I'm expecting wiring, plumbing, and linkage changes, but expect the 292 to drop right in.
Thanks.

Pete

Is that the old Jimmy 'big block' V6 or a newer one?

Yes, the big block V6 as used in early 60's GMC pickups.
To me a GMC is just a dolled up Chevy but the motor would have to go.
Thanks.

Pete, why not use a SBC cast iron bell housing from the 60-66 trucks? It will mate up to the 292 OK and still bolt into the frame. Which trans are you going to be using?

GM Dad, so I take it the Bell housing on the GMC V-6 is different, is it common with anything else?

I had a 68 GMC pick-up with the V6 and a TH400 for the transmission. Even then, when GM would do some one off pieces for specific application, I very much doubt they did a transmission housing specifically for the V6. The odds are high it is the same as a Chev and slight chance it matchs the B-O-P bolt pattern.

The deal on the truck fell through, so no rush.
I had wanted to change as little as possible.
Just swap engines. Possibly change to an OD transmission.
I'd probably use the Chevy bell housing and go from there.
Thanks.
